RECAP
Senator LISA KRASNER, Nevada District 16, was our featured guest speaker. Senator Krasner has admirably served in that position since 2016 and is running this year for reelection. She was asked if she might run for US Senate or Congress and she said no, she's happy where she is representing her constituents. Senator Krasner interestingly related some of the practicalities of serving in office of which any candidate might take heed! There was some debate of her interpretation of the 14th Amendment as it relates to current Supreme Court cases. However it seemed almost all in the room supported her candidacy for reelection. Larry Aynesmith presented some ideas stemming from discussion of the 1960s book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas Kuhn. That book had the thesis that progress does not stem only from slow accumulation, but also and importantly from drastic changes in outlook affecting how one sees things through different "frames" and "lenses." Larry asked if the Republican Party in Washoe County is using the same frame and lens it used since before the Harry Reid era, and is that still working. Joe MCelHinney led us in the Pledge, presented a petition regarding women's sports, and led an interesting discussion of the "conservation" movement in some states to ban lead bullets, and what that means for citizens. Lisa Krasner conjectured it might be an effort to further erode 2nd amendment rights. Janet Butcher discussed
Library Board and other matters and reminded us that the
deadline to apply for the Washoe County Library is coming soon.
Ray Rocha discussed
a number of matters relating to Washoe County and State matters.
His comments along with Janet Butcher's led to an extended
discussion of the Republican endorsement process in Washoe
County.
WHAT HAPPENED TO DAVID FLIPPO?
David Flippo was scheduled to appear at our April 8 meetiing but did not show. Here is what happened. Larry Aynesmith met with Mr. Flippo and his campaign manager at the previous Republican committee meeting and both confirmed that he would speak at our CTR April 8 meeting. Apparently his campaign manager called a couple days later and left a message saying there was a new scheduling conflict and they could not attend CTR on April 8. In the meantime, my phone was on the fritz for a few days and I did not see the message. Mistakes can be made on any side, so ces't la vie. I spoke again with the campaign manager who confirmed that Mr. Flippo will attend our forthcoming May 13 meeting. He may or may not be the "featured" guest speaker on May 13, but we would be happy for his attendance either way. * * *
